Baluch Kilim, Persia, 19th century, 3'10" x 9'9", $700 |
|
| Baluch flatweaves are some of the most compelling examples of flatweave work that are still emerging from Central Asia. The wealth of ornamentation seen in the narrow bands that separate the wider bands of zig zag patterning is quite compelling as is the palette. Such colors are rarely seen including a lovely aubergine hue that would be a delight on its own. But used in conjunction with these reds, orange red, blue, and blue/greens, it is truly a palette reflecting all the colors these people DO NOT live with in the barren environs in which they live. Complete and in relatively good condition, such pieces were used as floor coverings in the traditional reed huts that has been associated with the Baluch people of that region. |

CONDITION -- Good, with no holes, no stains, no repair, selvedges are a bit damaged with some selvedge cords hanging loose, minor signs of wear in places with slight exposure of ivor wool warps. This is an antique textile therefore it cannot be expected that it will be in "new condition". The terms used for describing condition are consistent with common usage in the marketplaces all over the world. Obvious flaws including repair, holes and stains WILL BE noted in all descriptions.
